Hidden Valley Democratic Club
of Escondido

We join together as the Hidden Valley Democratic Club to preserve, protect and advance our country’s foundational values and principles, namely: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among those are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” We believe that active involvement in the political process and the selection and election of well qualified, honest and capable government officials are cornerstones of our country.

Our History

A diverse group of Escondido Democrats late in 2020 began to assess what was perceived to be growing disarray in the local Democratic Party. This evolved into an effort to find a vehicle for Escondido Democrats to build a new radius of trust and a sense of purpose. That vehicle seemed to be a new Escondido Democratic club. Early in 2021, founding members proceeded to petition for a new and distinctive Escondido Democratic club. On June 15, 2021, the San Diego Democratic Party Central Committee approved the charter of the new club, and the public launch will occur on July 17, 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why does the Escondido region need another Democratic club?
The Hidden Valley Democratic club of Escondido will be an Escondido Democratic club that will be focused on early candidate recruitment. In addition, our Escondido Democratic club will limit club voting to Escondido-based Democrats (although non-Escondido club members are welcome to participate in discussions). The Hidden Valley Democratic Club will have a robust plan to build a ladder of success so that candidates gain experience and credentials before running for office. This means that water boards and school boards will have as much early attention as legislative, mayor and council races in Escondido.
  2. Why not change the old club from within?
The old club has a history and traditions militating against change. The new club will bring a freshness of spirit and vitality that will appeal to common sense professionalism. Trying to change the old club will aggravate matters and would be counter to the consensus-based tenor of the new club. Escondido Democratic Club members are welcome to apply to the new club; this can be attractive because the missions of the two clubs are different and can complement one another.
  3. What if the two clubs disagree on endorsements?
The Hidden Valley Democratic Club is firmly committed to a consensus approach and will position itself to rigorously avoid intra-party warfare (such as primary battles). The Hidden Valley Democratic Club seeks to adopt a positive tone that is supportive of progressive, well-prepared candidates who seek responsive, effective government. Early attention to candidate recruitment and preparedness should give time to negotiate political career timelines and soften personality clashes. The San Diego County Democratic Central Committee is the ultimate arbiter of endorsements.
